Hotel Review – Hotel Eden, Rome, Italy

Minx and I spent part of the summer holidays in Rome and stayed in a slice of heaven in the heart of the Old City, at Hotel Eden, who are part of the Dorchester Collection. And how much did we sob when we had to leave? A LOT.

It’s in an ideal location, very close to the Spanish Steps and Villa Borghese, and a short walk from local restaurants and stores (when you force yourself to actually leave the hotel!).

There are 121 rooms and suites on offer all decorated in a classic Italian style; they feel opulent, and very Italian – which I know sounds silly but you know as well as I do that there are some hotel interiors you wake up to and you feel as though you could be in any country – at Hotel Eden you definitely feel as though you are in Italy. This stunning property dates back to 1889 and has welcomed royalty, dignitaries, and numerous celebrities over those years and now also us!

The rooftop restaurant on the sixth floor has the most magnificent views of the city. We had breakfast in a different part every morning so that we could experience a different scene through the windows. It was quite something to eat breakfast looking at St. Peter’s Dome in the Vatican City in the distance, just beautiful. We came to the bar at sunset too several times to watch the glorious red/orange sun go down whilst drinking our cocktails/mocktails and listening to live piano music.

unnamed-2The restaurant La Terrazza dell’Edenis Michelin-starred and serves Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, with an outstanding wine list to accompany it.

We couldn’t have been looked after any better – the staff there made us feel incredibly welcome, everybody was extremely friendly and attentive and they couldn’t bring Minx sellotape fast enough when she called the concierge (she was making a collage of course…). We had room service one night and our room was laid out as though we were in our own personal restaurant.

A truly magical experience and very hard to say arrivederci.
