Red Bar Live, Grosvenor House, London

Do you like jazz music? Timeless songs? Cocktails? Something a little more glamorous than your local bar’s ‘live music’ night that you can dress up for?

How about all of that, in Mayfair, London and for free?

The Red Bar at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London has all of the above every Friday and Saturday evenings from 9-12. Cocktails are optional but of course I thought it might be rude not to…

I took a couple of girlfriends on a Saturday evening and we instantly felt transported to a bygone era where we enjoyed some of the old classics made famous by legends such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole to name a few. Accompanied by piano and double bass, vocalist Matthew VanKan sang to us, chatted to us and made us kick back the week that was. We sank into those leather sofas, sampled a selection of delicious cocktails and let the music wash over us.

A great, fun, sophisticated evening that left us on a high, singing (in our own inimitable style) to our Get Taxi black cab driver Ricky all the way home.

If you’re looking for something a little different, a little more refined perhaps for a Friday and Saturday evening and you’re in the west end of London, I’d definitely recommend Red Bar Live – and hey, you may even find me enveloped in a red leather sofa in the corner humming…
