Book Review – The Mindfulness Diet

The Mindfulness Diet” Dr Patrizia Collard and Helen Stephenson

The beginning of each year is the time many of us re-evaluate our lives and perhaps commit to losing weight or making our lifestyles a little healthier, and this book seems a good place to start.

Losing weight – and keeping it off – is a holistic thing.  You need to incorporate your mind into the process as well as watching what you eat and going to zumba/yoga/[insert exercise of choice].  “The Mindfulness Diet” reminds the reader that despite the demands of modern society to look a certain way or lose the extra pounds for that beach holiday that we should stop and think about this mind set has on our bodies and us.

Based in an ancient philosophy and elements of Buddhism it explains what mindfulness is and how to achieve it and incorporate it into our busy modern lives, and, our eating habits. There are explanations on meditation and breathing techniques to help unwind and become more present.

It’s a beautifully laid out book with advice, recipes and tips to make cooking and eating a more present experience – such as smelling fresh herbs before you use them and appreciating the cooking smells as you make some of the fabulous recipes.

A book worth a look if you’re looking to lose weight or become healthier and stay that way!
