Restaurant Review – Rosso Restaurant & Bar, Manchester

Becky from Team DC went to try out the restaurant Rosso in Manchester – here’s what she thought:

‘I was looking forward to reviewing Rosso as I’d heard so many good things about it. It’s well known in Manchester as being the restaurant owned by Rio Ferdinand and a celebrity haunt. Whilst it’s still owned by Rio it’s now established itself as a serious eatery with a reputation for fine wines, spirits and liqueurs. And it did not fail to deliver…

Signature dish IPPOGLOSSORosso is a paradox – it’s a huge cavernous space yet the most intimate and friendly restaurant I have visited in some while. It’s grand but not pretentious, and it’s traditional yet funky, modern and cool. Oh boy, and is it cool…

Rosso Bar Area

The staff could not have been any friendlier. They are polite, courteous in their service and happy to share a quip and a joke without being intrusive. They are incredibly knowledgeable about their menu and more than happy to suggest accompanying wines, yum.

I visited with my friend, Holly, on a Thursday evening. Reservations are always recommended, particularly for weekends. Holly started with the bruschetta, followed by a chicken with goat cheese and a rocket salad. I, meanwhile, started with rice balls with mozzarella followed by calzone and a mixed salad. The food is the best Italian I’ve eaten in the UK outside of London – well presented, cooked to perfection, fresh and simply delicious.

Rosso À La Carte

If you should find yourself in Manchester you should, without a doubt, visit Rosso – if only for a tipple of one of their amazing collection of spirits and liqueurs, but really you want to stay and eat too.’
