This week involved a two-night stay at Champneys Health Spa in Tring, and as I live in North London it just took 45 minutes to get there, yay! When you live in a busy city it feels sometimes that you only have to drive out a few miles and instantly the air feels more fresh and clean and you feel your shoulders relax and drop at least a centimetre.
Champneys definitely did that for me, set in a stately home in Hertfordshire with beautiful surroundings, the sun was shining and all the sun loungers were filled with groups of people chatting, sunbathing, reading and generally relaxing and switching off from their everyday schedules.
It’s a great place to go for back to back treatments, you can also pack light as the majority of people there spend most of their time in their bathrobes and flip flops to move seamlessly from one of the 65 treatment rooms, to the indoor or outdoor whirlpool, fully equipped gym, sauna, steam room and then to the hair salon for a blow dry afterwards!
It was very social there too, with a lot of day visitors as well as overnighters. Several groups of ladies (including a hen party), some couples, small groups of men plus a number of us travelling solo who just wanted to switch off for a short time and recharge our batteries. I caught up on a lot of reading (which I barely have time for at home), and loved that I didn’t have a huge long journey to get home afterwards.
Getting back on top of broken landlines, admin, accounts, travel schedules, diary arrangements and school run juggling didn’t feel so painful after a hot stone massage and a vitamin glow facial *and breathe *
