Theatre Review – The Curious Scrapbook of Josephine Bean

During half term last week the Minx and I were lucky enough to catch the show ‘The Curious Scrapbook of Josephine Bean’ at the Southbank Centre .

It was aimed at children of 7+ (Minx is nearly 8) and was in a studio downstairs, a wonderfully intimate space with a lot of opportunity to engage with the younger audience. The show was created, designed and perfomed by Shona Reppe of Catherine Wheels Theatre Company who plays ‘Dr Patricia Barker’ a doctor of ‘scrapology’ who takes us on a journey trying to discover who is behind the scrapbook she has in her possession by piecing together the clues through photographs, playing cards, beard hair and a sea bean amongst others.

It was just an hour long, which was perfect; she solved the mystery (with the help of the audience!) of who Josephine Bean was. It was a heartwarming, magical story that kept the audience entranced throughout.

I can’t wait to see what theatre trips the summer holidays hold.
