In Sweden, October 4th marks Cinnamon Bun Day or Kanelbullens dag! Thanks to Sara Flyckt for sharing her recipe so that you can make your own cinnamon buns and celebrate the day properly.
What you’ll need:
150 g butter
150 g butter
5 dl milk
1/2 tsp salt
1-1 1/2 dl sugar
1,4 litre flour
For the filling:
50-75g butter (room temperature)
2 tsp cardamom or cinnamon
Melt the butter in a pan. Pour the milk inside and leave it until it reaches 37C.
Put the yeast in a bowl and add a little bit of the liquid.
Add the rest of the liquid, salt sugar and about 2/3 of the flour.
Leave in the machine for about 4 minutes to make the dough easy and smooth. Add flour if needed but leave at least 1 dl for later.
Leave the dough in the bowl with a tea towel on top for 30 minutes.
Put flour on the work top and work the dough with your hands until it gets smooth.
Split the dough in two halves. Use a roller and make the two pieces into rectangular thin shapes.
Mix together the ingredients for the filling and spread that on top of the two pieces.
Roll the dough together and cut each piece into 24 small pieces.
Put them in cup cake cases or on to baking paper.
Leave them under a tea towel for 30 minutes.
Whisk an egg and brush over the buns (if you would like you can add some pearl sugar on top as well)
Bake in the middle of the oven 250C for 5-8 minutes,
Let them cool down under a tea towel and the enjoy!
