Anyone who knows me know that I’m a huge Idina Menzel fan: I saw her in Rent, Wicked and when she toured with Marvin Hamlisch and played the Royal Albert Hall and then I was SO lucky (thanks so my great friend Barry Burnett) to get tickets to see her at The Hackney Empire last week when she was recording Radio 2’s ‘Friday Night is Music Night’ – and what a great show. I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed by life of late – why is it that everything comes at you at the same time?
One thing at a time is bearable but at the moment it feels as though I’m juggling 27 things at the same time. However, Idina, the BBC Concert Orchestra, an evening of show tunes and a deep tissue massage at Spa and Massage is great therapy. Mare Street was full of song and laughter that night (even if they’re on street parking doesn’t finish until 11pm – what is THAT all about??), still downloadable on iPlayer radio for another couple of days if you’re interested…
I’ve been back to Balthazar for breakfast (okay I did another dinner too…), they have really great eggs and home fries and there is lots of room to maneuver at breakfast time, much different to the evenings when it’s packed to the rafters. I love those New York brunches full of eggs any which way or whatever with delicious salty home fries and yay, in Balthazar they taste just that way, a great place to start the day for a breakfast meeting.
This week was the week of the Conference and Hospitality show in Leeds, the only Meetings Industry Event outside of London and I was very excited to have been asked to speak there. There were lots of uber speakers there, so many exhibitors; it really was a hive of EA/PA activity.
I spoke to some fabulous people on the importance of networking and building your little black book – I know I’m nothing without my black book of contacts and it’s also where this newsletter and website came from. It’s so important to me to share the products and services I find in my work that help me to do the best job that I can. I’d also love for you to recommend the services you can’t do without too, go on, don’t be shy! Leave a comment below!
