I came to the important decision that I needed to treat myself to a cupcake in Sydney: especially after the jetlag and speaking engagements. I mean gee golly, what a hard knock life! So I thought to myself, “Donna, you deserve it, darn it!”
Before I left London, a friend recommended Sparkles Cupcakery so I made the trip to Surry Hills and was not disappointed. I walked in to a beautiful little store with a rock and roll feel: black backdrop, dazzling drop lighting, and taking the cupcake experience to a different retro modern kind of style.
When I walked in, the smell was amazing and the guy behind the counter was SO friendly.
I had the gluten-free lemon cupcake and my good friend Ali had the raspberry and white chocolate. You could immediately taste how real these flavors are: not just some mix. The cupcakes are baked fresh daily with the most pure, exquisite ingredients.
I was tempted to try their doggie cupcakes but was advised against it… possibly not gluten free… possibly too doggie, but extremely popular with the canine customer.
This is not your typical pink and cute cupcake store, its modern, shiny and chic. They have a great selection, almost spoilt for choice and as a cupcake expert, I can absolutely give my stamp of my approval and well worth the cab fare to Surry Hills.
