Country Casuals…

My birthday weekend is traditionally spent in the country (as in countryside, outside of London…) and you’d think being an August baby that what to wear wouldn’t take much thinking about, you’d just sling a small bag of shorts, vest tops and sandals into the boot of the car and drive off down the M40, but NO – we don’t have those kind of summers any more so a small holdall has now turned into a larger holdall, several small bags, a couple of pairs of shoes plus emergency boots, rainmac, umbrella and a hot-water bottle in case it’s chilly at night! (I do have a six-year old so her wardrobe is equally as complicated for a weekend away, in case you’re thinking this is excessive…).

So my weekend in the country basics are:

lunch look –

A linen dress, like this Hobbs Adelaide dress  (and Anthropologie Trousseau apron as I’m cooking) Oasis floppy hat , white flat sandals from Dune  (think gravel drives and grass, heels ain’t gonna work).

Pimm’s o’clock –

An All Saints Diaghilevi dress, a simple but sparkly cardigan from Next and these LK Bennett sandals

Sunday brunch –

This Mini skater dress from ASOS is very cute, Birkenstocks from Very  (if sunny), Kurt Geiger Shore boots  (if wet but humid)

Plus LK Bennett Sunglasses  and Lulu Guinness birdcage umbrella throughout (just in case…).

Have you thought about?

Using a whicker picnic hamper as a chic ‘weekend in the country’ suitcase?

Inviting friends around for ‘country at home’ one weekend, make an enormous pot of tea with homemade cakes and scones and putting on your own ‘village cake competition’?

Going to Columbia road flower market early on a Sunday morning and buying as many flowers as you can carry and bringing them home to fill every receptacle from a jug to a watering can with flowers and dotting them around your house – just because…?
