For us Brits it’s become a revelation (or a realization) to find out that black opaque tights have become the new all year-rounder must have. Summer has been a washout with no end in sight – I fear for the plummeting sales for pedicures, as it’s now a rarity to leave the house without a well-covered foot. HOWEVER, we are a nation of ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ and there may be light at the end of the tunnel in the guise of a summer holiday as far away as our purses or imagination can take us. We’re told again and again to holiday in the UK thus reducing our carbon footprint but that footprint for me is becoming more ‘trench’ footprint…

So take a deep breath, followed by a walk through the stores, and you will be reminded that summer holidays are afoot (see what I did there?). Plus, you can find happiness in the summer sales.

Beach chic
This look doesn’t have to be just sky-high wedges and a bikini, but if that is your preference I love these Penelope Chilvers espadrilles paired with this River Island purple print pacha kaftan, which is ideal to slip on for a light lunch with the girls. It will also be important to keep inside your Lulu Guinness bag your Guerlain Dry Oil which adds a little shimmer to your legs and arms (and is also perfect to keep the tan going after the holiday).

Cocktail Hour
Later in the day I love to channel a little bit of Hollywood glamour and what better way than with this beautiful swimsuit and sarong by Samantha Sage teamed with a pair of KG Jemima’s and this super cute, and very popular, fabric evening bag from Reiss, still available at John Lewis. It’s almost made for your Clinique Chubby Stick in bountiful blush.Just add a chilled glass of something for the finishing touch, but I’ll leave that to your personal taste.

Have you thought about:

  • Packing light and keeping your make-up to the bare minimum? Tinted moisturizer, a sweep of bronzer, mascara and some lip liner plus Vaseline will create an understated and natural look.
  • Using a cute colourful scarf or your sunglasses as a hairband?
  • Doubling up and using your make up bag as an evening clutch bag?
  • Wearing a floppy hat with everything, creating a mysterious St Tropez air (whilst also giving sun protection to your face)?
